At MSS, we provide literally hundreds of Irish SMEs with all the support and advice they need to help them navigate the work permit application process and increase their chances of success, be they General Employment Permits, or Critical Skills Employment Permits.
It is important to realise that Work Permits are not the same as Entry Visas. And that applications must be made to the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.
Who needs a Work Permit?
Broadly speaking, all non-EEA nationals must have a permit to work in Ireland. Permit applications may be made by an employer or an employee and are contingent on an offer of employment. An employee holding a permit automatically enjoys all the rights of an Irish or EEA citizen for the duration of the permit.
Offer of Employment
Before a work permit will be granted, the employer must be registered with Revenue, and with the Companies Registration Office. The employee applying for the work permit must demonstrate the necessary qualifications, skills and experience for the job. And they must be directly employed, and remunerated, by the employer.
All new applications for General Employment Permits must show a labour market needs test has been carried out. This test can be waived subject to certain criteria.
